CELEBREX 100MG CAPSULE contains Celecoxib which belongs to group of medicines called Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. CELEBREX 100MG CAPSULE is used in adults to manage osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease), rheumatoid arthritis (inflammatory disease of joints), ankylosing spondylitis (chronic back pain), acute pain and primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).
CELEBREX 100MG CAPSULE is also used to manage juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (in children aged 2 years and above).
CELEBREX 100MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Celecoxib, sulfonamides, aspirin and/or other NSAIDs. It is also not recommended for use in patients with/had a history of an ulcer in stomach/intestines, bleeding in stomach/intestines, blood circulation problems (such as peripheral arterial disease), red itchy welts, inflammatory disease of the intestines (such as ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s disease).
The medicine is also not indicted for use in patients suffering from lung problems (such as asthma), heart diseases (such as heart failure, recent heart attack, heart block), severe liver disease (such as advanced hepatic insufficiency) and/or kidney disease (such as advanced renal insufficiency).
Before taking CELEBREX 100MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have diabetes, raised blood pressure, increased cholesterol, signs of fluid retention (such as swollen ankles and feet) and/or hyperkalemia (increased potassium level in blood).

But for Pfizer Inc., a leader in pharmaceuticals, the news that the drug is available to buy without a prescription in the US is nothing new. The drug, whose manufacturer, AstraZeneca, has been under scrutiny for alleged safety issues, is in fact not the company’s only product, a recent study of more than 7,000 patients found that patients taking the drug were more likely to develop osteoarthritis than those who did not take the drug.
Pfizer’s Celebrex, also known as Celecoxib, is a newer version of the arthritis drug. Pfizer’s research, the company said, confirmed that the drug was safe and effective, and the study indicated that it did not cause serious side effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding or osteoarthritis.
The Celebrex study, which found that patients taking the drug experienced more heart problems and had fewer gastrointestinal side effects, was part of a larger study of more than 6,000 patients that analyzed data from more than 6,000 US hospitals and health care facilities.
The drug, which Pfizer said had been sold to AstraZeneca for $1.65 billion, had a “high potential for abuse” because of its alleged safety issues. But the company was not immediately available to answer questions about the research.
A spokeswoman for Pfizer said the company is not planning to take a public comment on the study, but it is “not a sure thing” that the drug is safe and effective in the US. The company said that while it was not yet aware of the study’s results, it was reviewing the drug’s potential for abuse.
The company was in the process of reviewing whether the drug was safe and effective and the results were still expected to be released on Tuesday.
Pfizer said in a statement it is “evaluating our position on the drug and evaluating whether the results are sufficient to justify a final regulatory approval of the product”.
The company’s marketing efforts are part of a larger, more aggressive marketing effort to encourage “growth in the use of Celebrex” by “patients who need the drug at a low cost” and “the development of a new drug”.
Pfizer is seeking to launch a generic version of Celebrex, which is expected to cost around $500 million a year.
